Weekly Agenda May 2-8: Brew festival, free movie, music

Trying to figure out what to do? This calendar, published weekly on Mondays, can point you to some of the best options in Lake Norman.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

May 2 

Cardio Funk 

6:30-7:30 pm Mondays. Drop in for this high-energy class at Bailey Road Recreation Center. $10 per class, pay at the door.

May 2, 3 and 5

Open Track Nights on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays

6-8 pm. James Hoyt Wilhelm Park’s 1/4-mile walking track will be lighted on Mondays and Bailey Road Park’s regulation track will be lighted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both open to the public.

May 3

Huntersville Growers’ Market 

9 am – 1 pm Tuesdays at the Novant Hospital parking lot, 10003 Gilead Road.

Adult Open Gym Basketball 

6:30 to 9 p.m. Adults may drop in on Tuesdays for basketball at Bailey Road Recreation Center, 11536 Bailey Road, inside Bailey Middle School.  Ages 18 and older. Free.

ReadDavidson

5 pm.  In-person book discussion on the adult fiction selection, Infinite Country by Patricia Engel. Outside behind Summit Coffee, Main Street, Davidson. Information here  or register here.

May 4

Lecture 

7-8:30 pm. “Within the heart are held all the worlds” – Reflections on being human informed by wisdom teachings from India. William K. Mahony, PhD, is the Charles A. Dana Professor of Religious Studies at Davidson, where he has taught since 1982. He will share his thoughts on ways in which wisdom traditions from Classical India can inform our own larger contemporary discussion in this series on what it is to be human. One of the key ideas he will point to centers on the idea of self. Davidson College, Visual Arts Center VAC-117 Semans Lecture Hall.

National Bike to School Day

JV Washam, Cornelius Elementary, and Bailey Middle will all be participating. Students will have an opportunity to meet with Cornelius Police Officers and learn safety skills prior to the group ride.

7- 8:30 pm.  Lecture on “Optimal Sleep for the Optimal You.” The Lilly Gallery, Davidson College.

May 5 

Cinco De Mayo Party!

3-10 pm. New Beer Release and featured taco, quesadilla, & nacho menu. Cinco De Mayo themed Trivia at 7 pm. Royal Bliss Brewing Co. 7532 Royal Bliss Ct., Denver.

Join the Lake Norman Bridge Center 

12:30-4pm Thursdays at Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., if you have an interest in learning the game of bridge or want to develop your playing, bidding, and defense skills. All ages and skill levels are welcome. $5 per day, pay at the door.

Rock the Park summer concert series 

Cat5 Band features beach music, originals, country, yacht rock and classic rock. Food trucks will open at 6 pm and the show begins at 6:30 pm. Outside food and beverage is permitted with the exception of alcohol. Small coolers are allowed. Liberty Park, 25 E. Iredell Ave., downtown Mooresville.

May 7: Outdoor Cinema Series

Outdoor Cinema Series: Encanto

Gate opens at 6:30 pm. Movie will begin at dusk, approximately 8:30 pm. Coolers and picnic baskets are welcome, though concessions will be for sale. No pets. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Torrence Chapel Park, 21309 Torrence Chapel Rd.

Davidson Farmers Market

9 am- noon. 120 S. Main St., Davidson. Rain or shine, No pets please.

Huntersville Growers’ Market 

8 am – noon Saturdays at Veterans Park at Main & Maxwell, 201 Huntersville-Concord Rd., Huntersville.

Pints For Parker Plant Sale + Blood Drive

Noon – 4 pm. Donate blood in OneBlood’s Big Red Bus, or buy a pint or a plant with proceeds benefitting the Pounding for Parker FoundationLost Worlds Brewing,  19700-D One Norman Blvd., Cornelius.

Town Day service activity benefiting Refugee Support Services

10 am – 3 pm. The ReadDavidson committee will  partner with Davidson College’s Davidson Refugee Services (DRS) and other participating students in providing an opportunity to raise awareness, fundraise,and offer a family friendly activity, all with the goal of supporting Refugee Support Services in Charlotte.
