Weekender Oct. 13-16: Laketoberfest, Balloonfest, HEARTS Harvest and live music

Oct. 15: Laketoberfest Music & Brew Festival 

Here’s highlights of what is going on around Lake Norman in October. For events that repeat weekly, we’ve created an ONGOING category; scroll down and you’ll find it. 

Through Oct. 27

Annual Artoberfest

Noon-4 pm | Tuesday-Friday.  10am – 2pm | Saturday. Local artists’ work on display at Mooresville Arts Depot, 103 W. Center Ave., Mooresville.

Pumpkin patches at Carrigans Farm and Hodges Family Farm

Through Oct. 31

Carrigans / Scarrigans Farm

Pumpkin picking daily. Pumpkin patch includes hayride to petting Zoo and pumpkin field. Haunted Trail for ages 12 and older. Advanced reservations are required for both actives. Pumpkin picking cost is $14 per person and includes a pumpkin. Haunted Trail price ranges from $20 to $40 per person depending on the date. 1261 Oakridge Farm Hwy., Mooresville.

Through Oct. 31

Annual Pumpkin Patch 

Hodges Family Farm main entrance, 3780 Rocky River Rd. East, Charlotte. Open daily 9 am – 6 pm.  Pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, hay mountain to climb and jump on, barnyard animals, photo opportunities, picnic areas. Saturday and Sundays you can also expect: $5 parking, hayrides, Farm Shop, treats for purchase.

Through Nov. 11

Mud at the Mill Exhibition

10 am to 4:30 pm. Monday through Friday. Cornelius Art Center Gallery, 19725 Oak St.

Through Nov. 20

29th Annual Carolina Renaissance Festival & Artisan Marketplace 

9:30 am – 5:30 pm. | Saturdays and Sundays. Rain or shine; no pets. Free parking. Go online for details and tickets pricing. 16445 Poplar Tent Rd., Huntersville.

Through March 12

Men of Change art exhibit

Check websites for gallery schedules. | B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts+Culture  and Levine Museum of the New South to bring  Men of Change: Power. Triumph. Truth. The Gantt will display Storytellers, Fathering, and Imagining; Levine Museum will display Catalysts, Myth-Breakers, and Community; both museums in Charlotte will display Loving. Admission is free.

Oct. 14-16: Carolina Balloonfest

Carolina Balloonfest

3 pm Friday, 7 am Saturday and Sunday | Oct. 14-16.  $10 and up. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Watch more than 50 balloons launch twice daily. Statesville Regional Airport, 260 Hangar Drive, Statesville.


Noon-11 pm Friday, Saturday; noon -8pm Sunday | Oct. 14-16.  A weekend featuring a full lineup of live music, classic Oktoberfest featured menu of Brats in the Beer Garden, new merch, beer specials, games, contests, prizes & more! Royal Bliss Brewing, 7532 Royal Bliss Ct.,  Denver.

2nd Friday – Oktoberfest

January 6th Justice Rally

11 am | Oct.14. Rally in support of democracy, the freedom to vote and for accountability. Government Center Plaza, 600 E. Fourth St., Charlotte.

Birkdale Bash 

10 am-8 pm | Oct. 14. Enjoy family-friendly fun for the little ones with a morning of activities in The Plaza including a live DJ, face painting, balloon twisting and more.

1-3 pm | Oct. 14. live music on the Plaza stage and giveaways from Birkdale restaurants and retailers

6-8 pm | Oct. 14. Live Under The Oaks, a set of dueling pianos will take the stage.

Symphony Under the Stars 

6:30-8:30 pm | Sept. Oct. 14.  Mooresville Performing Arts presents ‘Symphony Under the Stars’ featuring the Lake Norman Philharmonic. Liberty Park in downtown Mooresville.

Oct. 14: Dance the night away at Huntersville Latino Night

HEARTS Harvest

2-5 pm | Oct. 15. History of food and fields through the ages. Cedar Groove Live Music – Blues. Hugh Torance House & Store, 8231 Gilead Road, Huntersville.

Laketoberfest Music & Brew Festival 

4-9 pm | Oct. 15. This annual community event features live music, beer from local NC breweries, food trucks, kid’s zone with crafts and games. Free admission and parking. The event proceeds benefit Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists. Bailey Road Park, 11536 Bailey Road.

Claudia’s 5K: Call Out For Courage 

8:30 am | Oct. 15. Walk or run  3.1 miles in the effort to bring awareness to the importance of good mental health and mental health care. Price increases after Oct. 13. Jetton Park 19000 Jetton Rd., Cornelius.

Hola Charlotte Festival

Noon-6pm. | Oct. 15. Hispanic Heritage celebration with internationally renowned artists performing. Free.  Activities for everyone in the family throughout the street style festival and food vendors. Uptown Charlotte, 200 South Tryon St.

Oct. 15: Chili Cook-off at D9 Brewing

Noon-3 pm | Oct. 15. Cool Kids Clubhouse presenting with proceeds to benefit the fight against childhood cancer. Tasting fee is $20.  D9 Brewing, 11138 Treynorth Drive, Cornelius. “Secret” Society of Crafters

Senior Open Gym Pickleball

12:30-4pm Thursdays at Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., if you have an interest in learning the game of bridge or want to develop your playing, bidding, and defense skills. All ages and skill levels are welcome. $5 per day, pay at the door.

Cardio Funk 

9-10 am. Drop in for this high-energy class at Bailey Road Recreation Center. $10 per class, pay at the door.

Saturday Morning bike ride

8 am.  Meet in front of Spirited Cyclist Bike Shop, 610 Jetton St., Davidson, in the Harris Teeter parking lot. Distance/pace: 32 miles; moderate/tempo 16-18mph no drop. Option for longer /faster rides.
