Weekender May 25-29: Check out these events during Memorial Day weekend

Dance Without Limits

Noon – 1 pm | May 25.  A Culture Blocks program presented by Order My Steps designed for seniors of all levels.  Improve strength, coordination and mobility while learning new steps and styles. David B. Waymer Recreation Center, 14008 Holbrooks Rd., Huntersville.

Fast Cars and Guitars

Senior Dance

3:30 – 4:30 pm | Thursdays. This free class is designed for senior adults to improve flexibility, breath, balance, mobility, and fluidity by exploring various elements of ballet, jazz, modern, and improvisation. Participants can choose to take the class seated, standing, or a combination of both. Presented by Charlotte Ballet. Northern Regional Recreation Center, 18121 Old Statesville Rd., Cornelius.

Friday May 26 – Sunday, May 28

The Foodees Food and Culture Festival

1-7 pm | May 26; 11 am – 7 pm | May 27 and May 28. Free to attend the three-day celebration of food, art and community. More than 25 food trucks and food vendors, as well as artists, artisans and crafters at Lake Norman YMCA21300 Davidson St., Cornelius. This will be the YMCA’s opening weekend for Lake Norman activities. The YMCA will offer the lake activities and parking free for YMCA members, while non-YMCA members can buy passes for the lake activities and on-site parking will be $5 per car. There is no admission to enter the Foodees Food and Culture Festival. Just simply register for your tickets so that we know how much to have the food trucks bring.

Live Under the Oaks Concert

Saturday, May 27

Davidson Farmers Market

9 am – noon| May 27. Rain or Shine. No pets. the Mecklenburg County Master Gardeners table to welcome them back to the DFM. They will be at the market every Saturday for all of your local gardening Q&As. Vendors  accept Snap/EBT. Live music and playground for children. Downtown Davidson.

Concerts on the Green

6-8 pm | May 27. Crucial Fiya. Downtown Davidson.

Ramsey Creek Beach opens

|Noon to 6 pm | May 27.  Entry fees vary by carload, an individual’s age and day of the week.

Sunday, May 28

Birkdale Big Screen

1 pm | May 28. The French Open. Screenings are free for all visitors and seating is open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis. Coolers are prohibited. Showings will be turned off when Concierge closes. Birkdale Village, Huntersville.

NASCAR Cup Series

6  pm | May 28. The 64th running of the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR’s toughest test of man and machine. Festivities a pre-race concert featuring The Doobie Brothers, a pre-race military salute with demonstrations from Fort Bragg and performances by the 82nd Airborne Chorus. Tickets: $50-$400.  Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord.

Monday, May 29

Memorial Day Observance

10 am | May 29. Each Memorial Day, the Town and American Legion Post 86 invite everyone to honor our nation’s servicemen and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Cornelius Town Hall and The Cain Center For The Arts, downtown Cornelius.
