Weekender Jan. 11-14: MLK celebration; Owl Prowl, Animal Adventure and more

Owl Prowl

7:30 pm | Jan. 11. Perfect for families with older children and adults alike, this after-dark adventure lets you experience the Raptor Trail like never before. The event begins with a program where you can get a closer look at one of the resident owl ambassadors. Then, embark on a guided Owl Prowl around the trail, complete with evening-specific activities. Tickets are $30 per person or $25 per person for members. Carolina Raptor Center, 6000 Sample Rd., Huntersville.

Idol X: The Billy Idol Experience

Saturday, Jan. 13

Make Your Own Bird Feeder

3 – 4 pm |Jan. 13. Bring your favorite cookie cutter to Lake Norman State Park and create a fun-shaped bird feeder to take home. Bird seed and all other supplies will be provided. Nannie H. Potts

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

1 pm | Jan. 14. Honoring Nannie Houston Potts as the first and only Black mayor in Cornelius. This free event will feature The Strollers, food, music and speakers. Donations toward Torrence Chapel AMEZ Church’s education committee college scholarships will be welcome. Torrence Chapel AMEZ Church, 21517 Torrence Chapel Rd., Cornelius.

Animal Adventures

2-3 pm out 3-4 pm  | Jan. 14. Get an up close and personal look at the diversity of the animal kingdom during this interactive program for the whole family. Explore the wild world of adaptations with the help of our furry, scaly, and slimy animal ambassadors. $3 plus museum admission. Purchase tickets at the admissions desk when you arrive. Goat Therapy

6-7 pm | Jan. 14. A small intimate experience where you will get to bottle feed your own baby goat and get 45 minutes of cuddle time. If you have a child under 10 years old, they may come into the pen under your supervision (18+). Ages 11 and older need to have their own purchased ticket. All of these goats are under 10 weeks old and one small child is allowed in with a parent. There is a limited amount of tickets. $28. Eleven Lakes Brewing, 10228 Bailey Rd #201, Cornelius.

Family Pottery Workshop

10:30 am | Jan. 14. Presented by Clayworks Inc. Friends and families (children aged 5+) are welcome to a Creative Clay Workshop. Thanks to the ASCs Culture Blocks Program, a teaching artist from Clayworks will help participants with their projects. Projects will be taken to Clayworks to be fired and glazed before being returned for pickup at Waymer Recreation. Please allow 3 weeks for this process. David B. Guests will need to book ice skating reservations in advance to ensure a skating time slot. Walk-ups are also welcome, but we cannot guarantee you will be able to skate at that time. Get your tickets here.
