Under the weather (watch): A little snow, a little ice

Winter Storm

Feb. 16. The Town of Cornelius has no plans to shut down early this afternoon, but public works employees will be on call into the night, according to Assistant Town Manager Andrew Grant.

The National Weather Service says there is a 30 percent chance of snow in Cornelius, mainly after 5 pm, with total daytime accumulation of less than half an inch.

The town is pre-treating problem areas on roads with brine. There is one truck equipped with a brine spreader. Four other trucks are available for  help with town streets but little accumulation is anticipated.

The Weather Service calls for snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 4 am, then freezing rain likely between 4 am and 5am.

Businesses said they are staying open today, although banks and the Post Office are closed because of the President’s Day holiday.

Lake Norman Chrysler Jeep Dodge will close at 6 pm today, and reopen later than usual Tuesday, at 10 am. The North Mecklenburg Senior Center in Huntersville plans normal hours today.

Tuesday will be clear with a high near 40, according to the Weather Service.
