Unique cooking class will be held at Ada Jenkins

March 18. Ada Jenkins Center’s “Apple a Day” Cooking Classes for a Healthy Lifestyle are open to the first 10 people who register. Classes will be held every Monday from March 25 to June 3.

Participants must be age 55 or older and can attend class regularly every week for all 10 sessions as well as at least two medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity and/or high blood pressure.

They also must be willing to have basic health measurements taken which may include blood pressure, waist circumference and blood work—done privately with a nurse.

Participants must be able to understand and communicate in English; classes in Spanish are planned for the fall. Everyone will receive a free take-home meal kit each week, to prepare at home the meal they made during the class

With financial support from Alliance Health, The Cannon Foundation, Inc., Mecklenburg County, Novant Health, the Peninsula Community Foundation, the Town of Davidson, and Trane Technologies, the Ada Jenkins Center cafeteria will be reopening soon for public events and additional Healthy Initiatives classes.
