Two arrested in Jay’s at the Lake stabbing

Nov. 28. A stabbing early Friday morning at Jay’s on the Lake left one man in intensive care and resulted in two arrests, according to the Cornelius Police Department.

Officers were called to the bar on Statesville Road at 2:20 a.m. to respond to the incident. The victim, whose name was not released, was stabbed in the chest. He was taken to CMC Main, where he underwent surgery and is now in the ICU.

A traffic stop on a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident led to the arrests of Dale Patterson, 63, of Staten Island, New York, and Denzel Washington, 27, of Cornelius. Patterson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Washington was charged with intoxicated and disruptive and simple affray. Both men were taken to the Mecklenburg County Jail.

According to Mecklenburg County records, Patterson has no prior arrests. Washington has been arrested numerous times on charges including misdemeanor larceny, drug possession, fraud and possession of stolen goods.

Detectives are asking for assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the verbal altercation, the fight or the stabbing. Individuals who may have cellphone video or other relevant information are urged to contact investigators.
