Jan. 13 – Travelers curious about options beyond social media inspiration and online booking sites will have a chance to explore them in person this week at the Lake Norman Luxury Travel Expo, a free community event at the Cain Center for the Arts.

The event will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Cain Center. Admission is free, and a cash bar will be available.

The expo brings together a range of travel specialists, including companies that organize small-ship expeditions to Alaska, the Galápagos and Antarctica, as well as planners of African safaris, European river cruises, private villa stays in Europe and the Caribbean, and around-the-world private jet journeys. Organizers said the intent is to introduce travelers to highly customized experiences that are often unfamiliar to the general public.

Unlike traditional travel shows, the event is designed to be educational and conversational rather than sales-driven. There will be no stage pitches or hard sells, organizers said. Attendees can move freely among vendor tables, ask questions and participate in short panel discussions covering topics such as expedition travel, differences between river and ocean cruising, and how complex itineraries are planned without becoming overwhelming.

Organizers also noted that the Lake Norman area is home to a growing population of well-traveled residents who are increasingly seeking meaningful experiences rather than standard vacations. The region’s expanding 55-and-older demographic includes many parents who have relocated to be closer to children and grandchildren, contributing to increased interest in multigenerational travel.

The event also benefits the local arts community. Every participating company has paid to take part in the expo, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Cain Center for the Arts.
