Town board race down to six candidates

Sept. 25. John Caldwell has quietly withdrawn from the race for the Cornelius Town Board, leaving six candidates vying for the five open seats on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Caldwell, a resident of Peninsula Cove Lane, did not respond to a request for comment. The Mecklenburg County Board of Elections website simply says withdrew. Caldwell had not actively campaigned since he filed with the board of elections in July and did not take part in candidate forums held this month.

The remaining candidates are incumbents Susan Johnson, Michael Osborne, Todd Sansbury and Robert Carney, along with former board commissioner Colin Furcht and newcomer Michael DeVoney.

Scott Higgins chose not to seek reelection after his first term.
