Town advertising for new planning director

June 14. By Dave Vieser. In the midst of several rezoning proposals, the Town of Cornelius has reassigned Planning Director Aaron Tucker to his former post of senior planner. Tucker was named planning director in January of 2020 after joining the town in 2018.

The position is advertised on the town’s web site.

Town Manager Andrew Grant said Tucker asked for the change.

“Recognizing that he needed more experience managing a professional planning department, Aaron Tucker voluntarily requested to step down from the position of planning director to senior planner,” Grant said.

Tucker, who is 28, will be able to focus on the non-supervisory duties of the planning department while gaining supervisory experience, Grant said.

When he was named planning director last year, Tucker received a 12 percent increase in salary to $71,320. With the reassignment his annual salary was adjusted to $62,000.

Separately, the town and HR Director Jared Azzone parted ways recently.

Tucker remains the the town’s technical coordinating committee rep on the Charlotte Regional Planning Transportation Organization.
