Three local teens land spots in electric co-op programs

Feb. 23. Three Lake Norman area high school students have been selected by EnergyUnited to participate in unique leadership opportunities: Patrick Oglesby of Huntersville and Madeline Hiteshue of Mooresville will represent EnergyUnited in Washington D.C. as delegates in the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour program. Parker Ariail of Cornelius will represent EnergyUnited in June in the Cooperative Leadership Camp program, organized by the Cooperative Council of North Carolina.

EnergyUnited is one of two electricity cooperatives, in addition to Duke Energy, serving Cornelius.

Oglesby, 15, attends the NC School of Science & Mathematics, while Hiteshue, 16, is a junior at Pine Lake Prep in Mooresville.

Ariail, a sophomore at Hough High, will participate in the Cooperative Leadership Camp this summer at Camp Monroe in Laurel Hill. Also attending is Shelby Younts, a sophomore from Lexington.

“The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour and Cooperative Leadership programs will offer incredible leadership experiences for these students.” said Maureen Moore, EnergyUnited spokesperson. “We are very honored to offer these opportunities for four students who have demonstrated academic excellence and a strong commitment to community service.”
