There is a reason: Turn turn

Feb. 21. The treacherous intersection of Old Jetton Road and Jetton Road is getting a fix: Left-hand turns from Old Jetton onto Jetton will no longer be allowed.

The intersection, which handles significant traffic coming to and from the Jetton Village/Harris Teeter shopping center is one of the most dangerous in Cornelius.

The Town of Cornelius has acquired a postage-stamp piece of land in front of the Harris Teeter that will make a “pork chop turn” to the right mandatory. It’s so-named for the shape of the median that will physically prevent motorists from turning left—or going straight through.

The median will also prevent drivers from crossing Jetton into the Peninsula Village shopping center, home of Waterbean Coffee and Brooklyn South.

In a press release, the town said drivers will have other alternatives for exiting the Jetton Village shopping center, including the intersection of Old Jetton Road and West Catawba Avenue.

By the end of spring, a concrete median will be installed to prevent drivers from making left turns onto Jetton Road or crossing Jetton Road into the Peninsula Village shopping center from Old Jetton Road.
