Swim Advisory for Lake Norman
The Lincoln County health director issued a swimming advisory Monday afternoon after approximately 2,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into Lake Norman.

The spill occurred at 8001 Shore Drive in Denver, which is one cove to the north of the McGuire Nuclear Station.
County officials said heavy rainfall caused a short circuit in a junction box, resulting in a malfunction at a wastewater lift station.
As a precaution, the health department is advising residents to avoid swimming or any bodily contact with the water in the affected area because it may be contaminated with fecal coliform bacteria.
The Killian Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant is collecting water samples. Test results will be forwarded to the Lincoln County Public Utilities Department, which will notify the health department.
The advisory will remain in effect until water samples show fecal coliform levels meet state guidelines established by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.

If you’re talking up by Westport that’s probably fine but county officials aren’t specific on areas to avoid other than the general spill area. Markers four and five are definitely closer to the area they recommend avoiding.
