June 12. By Dave Vieser. The long-awaited Planning Board public hearing on the Sunset Cove project planned for Nantz Road will be held on Tuesday July 8, at 6:30 pm in Town Hall.
Project applicant Larry Griffin Jr. seeks rezoning for 8.6 acres of lakefront property at 18311/18323 Nantz Road to convert two existing single-family homes into an event space for weddings and corporate events to be called Sunset Cove. Also included in the plans is a 6,000 square-foot tent space for events.
The current zoning on the site is general residential and Griffin is asking for conditional zoning. The proposal has generated concern from neighbors on Nantz Road, and in the general vicinity.
Opponents have made dozens of signs, which they have taken to several town board meetings and posted on lawns in the neighborhood since details of the proposal were unveiled earlier this year.
Aware of the opposition, the applicant has been meeting with neighbors to try and address their concerns. The Griffin family owns a number of local businesses including Griffin Brothers Acquisitions, Pine Island Country Club and landfills, as well as ZoomUp Investments and Royal Bliss Brewery.
The July 8 meeting will take place in the Town Hall Meeting Room, starting at 6:30 pm, and will also be live streamed on the town website: www.cornelius.org .
