Street Smarts: Everyone in Cornelius can have them

By Dave Yochum. A new online program called Street Smarts lets Cornelius residents report traffic and transportation problems from their laptop or cell phone.

Conceived by the town’s Transportation Advisory Board, Street Smarts addresses both problems and opportunities on town roads, not necessarily I-77.

The website is www.cornelius.org/streetsmarts.

Street Smarts will ultimately help the Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) advise the Cornelius Board of Commissioners on transportation projects.

The TAB is a citizen committee that works with the Cornelius Planning Department and the Board of Commissioners to provide guidance on issues related to transportation, development and pedestrian safety.

Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Miltich and Commissioner Kurt Naas are the Town Board liaisons to the TAB.

The TAB plans to respond to every comment within the map portal. Responses can be viewed by anyone in the portal. Because the system is anonymized to encourage candor, commenters will not be notified of the response. Comments will receive a response at the monthly TAB meetings.

The TAB meets at 6 pm on the first Tuesday of the month. Comments received via Street Smarts will be reviewed and considered when planning future projects.
