Soup kitchen asks volunteers to deliver summer lunches

as_logo_smallMay 19. Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen in Huntersville has reached out to the Smithville Community Center offering a summer lunch program again this year. With school out for the summer, some in the community are not getting the daytime meals that are provided by the Board of Education.
According to Lisa Mayhew-Jones, Chairman of The Smithville Community Coalition, the program has been quite a hit, “We started out with 50 bagged lunches the first year, then went to 75, and now we’re up to 100.”
Mayhew-Jones says volunteers will be needed to pick up and deliver food from Angels and Sparrows to the Smithville Community Center, Meridian Street area and the Village Apartments. Two volunteers a week are needed until school resumes in September. Anyone interested, contact Lisa Mayhew-Jones at the Smithville Community Coalition by calling 704-957-0762.
