Shirley Simmons Corson, 86



Shirley Simmons Corson, 86, of Huntersville NC passed away on June 1, 2015 after a brief illness.  She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Rose of Atlanta GA, and Ellen Stone of Huntersville NC.  She is also survived by three grand-daughters, Carrie Humphries of Huntersville NC, Laura and Katie Rose of Atlanta, as well as two great – grandchildren, Ava Humphries and Aiden Humphries of Huntersville.  She is also survived by her sister Eileen McArdle of Lexington SC. She was pre-deceased by her husband Charles Corson, and eight brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Corson grew up in Schenectady NY, and settled in Painted Post NY.  She also lived in  Myrtle Beach SC and in Atlanta GA.  Her final residence was in Huntersville NC where she was able to enjoy being with her daughter Ellen as well as her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.

Shirley was very active in the volunteer community both in Myrtle Beach and Huntersville. She helped found CASA in Myrtle Beach and donated baby hats and blankets to local hospitals.  She was an avid knitter and quilter and accomplished seamstress. While in Myrtle Beach she was an avid tennis player and part of a community tennis team.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, donations  can be made to your organization of choice.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 4 at 2 PM in the chapel of James Funeral Home with a reception to follow in the James Funeral Home Community Room.
