Southwest section of Caldwell Station Creek Greenway closed

The westernmost section of the Caldwell Station Creek Greenway is closed as work begins on Bailey Road Extension.

The closed segment runs southwest from the gravel parking lot on Bailey Road to the access point across the street from Home Depot. The section of the greenway that runs northeast, parallel to Bailey Road, and ends at N.C. 115 remains open.

While the new roadway is not expected to be completed until fall 2027, the N.C. Department of Transportation says the closed section of greenway is expected to reopen later this year.

When the project is complete, the greenway will pass beneath the new road with an added loop connection to access a new multiuse path along Bailey Road Extension.

Because of the old-growth forest and creek wetlands, the Town of Cornelius Parks and Recreation Master Plan calls for the area north and south of the closed greenway section to eventually become a passive recreation park with limited active components.
