A 35 year old motorist from South Carolina was killed instantly Saturday morning Dec. 5 when the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a large Fed-Ex truck on I-77 near the Cornelius/Huntersville border. According to Lt. Jeff Gordon of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Ryan Peter Ginther of Simpsonville, SC, was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-77 when he collided with the Fed Ex Truck at 3:54 am about 1.5 miles south of Exit 28. No other injuries were reported but the southbound interstate was closed for several hours while police and fire department crews cleared the scene and conducted their investigation. Gordon said it was unknown at this time if speeding or alcohol had played a role in the incident.
