Road Closure Starts Friday Into Davidson
A busy section of South Main Street in Davidson will close Friday as part of construction on a new roundabout near the Davidson–Cornelius town line, said the Town of Davidson in a notice emailed to residents this weekend.
The closure of South Main Street (NC 115) from the train trestle into Davidson will begin Friday, March 13, weather permitting, and is expected to remain in place for an undetermined amount of time while crews continue work on the Potts Street roundabout project.
The NCDOT is building the roundabout to realign the intersection of NC 115 with Potts Street and improve traffic flow and safety in an area that has seen increasing congestion.
Officials said motorists can expect significant delays and major traffic impacts.
Traffic will be routed around the closure via Potts Street and Davidson’s Catawba Avenue, and signs will guide drivers along alternate routes, officials said. South Main Street will remain open to local traffic only — including residents, business owners, employees, deliveries and customers — but through traffic will be barred from the closed section.
The duration of the closure has not been determined, and the town said it will issue updates as it receives information from NCDOT.
