Shake Shack sprouted from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in New York City

Aug. 24. Dave Vieser. Look for new restaurants, including two well-known Charlotte favorites, in the retail and office center under construction at Sam Furr Road and Birkdale Commons Parkway.

Tenants in Birkdale Landing include Shake Shack, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill and Inizio Pizza Napoletana. The Fairways Investments project opens late this year or early 2021.

Shake Shack is a national fast-food chain known best for its burgers. They will occupy a 3,200 square foot space. Firebirds Wood Fired Grill plans to open in a 5,600 square feet space. The Charlotte-based chain serves a wide variety of food, including steaks and fresh seafood cooked over a wood-fired grill.

If pizza is your thing, Inizio Pizza Napoletana will open in a 2,900 square foot space. They currently have two locations in Charlotte, on Providence and Park roads.

Birkdale Landing will include a new, two-story, 28,000-square-foot office building and three new retail buildings totaling 44,734 square feet.
