Aug 28. The Charlotte metro area ranked as the 39th most expensive city for renters, according to a new study by Zumper, an apartment rental website.
Charlotte was the third most expensive city in the Carolinas, trailing Charleston (No. 14) and Durham (No. 37). Other Carolina cities on the list included Asheville (No. 41) and Raleigh (No. 49).
The median price for a one-bedroom unit in Charlotte rose 0.7% in August to $1,470, while two-bedroom units held steady at $1,700.
Rent prices in Charlotte have bucked national trends, which are on the downswing. August marked the fourth consecutive month of decline in Zumper’s National Rent Index, with rents seeing accelerated drops.
“Our National Rent Index has dipped into negative territory across the board, both monthly and annually, with one- and two-bedroom rents now firmly on the decline,” said Anthemos Georgiades, CEO of Zumper. “Renters today have more choices than they’ve seen in years.”
The report covers 100 U.S. cities, drawing from more than 1 million active listings, and includes a National Rent Index for one- and two-bedroom units.
