Sept. 11. Hopewell High School students and families started their day off at 5:30 am climbing stairs to remember the victims of September 11. The 9/11 Stair Climb was organized by Hopewell soccer parent alumni Tim Morris, a nine-year veteran of the Charlotte Fire Department.

Morris first organized the event last year in remembrance of the events of 9/11, with almost 50 people participating. Now in it’s second year, nearly 200 individuals showed up and donations were collected for the Firefighters’ Burned Children Fund.
The event pays tribute to first responders and represents the 110-story climb up the World Trade Center towers. Seven laps around the full sets of bleachers on the Hopewell stadium’s home side is approximately 2,200 steps, and each lap participants are able to drop a donation into a firefighter’s boot.
