Planning Board OKs Fruitful Roots; now it’s on to the Town Board

April 9. By Dave Vieser. The Cornelius Planning Board gave a unanimous thumbs-up for Fruitful Roots, a new brewery planned on North Main just north of the Food Lion parking lot. Brothers Douglas Marion and Travis Marion and their wives Shannon and Chelsea, respectively, plan a taproom and brewery with a small kitchen on a one acre parcel at 20219 North Main.

The existing zoning district is Neighborhood Mixed Use and the proposed zoning district is Conditional Zoning. One parcel is currently vacant and the other two parcels are currently occupied by a duplex dwelling unit.

The planning board’s major concern about the proposal dealt with parking, but the Marions, operating under the name Aspirational Adventures, explained that there would be 26 spaces with the new facility, plus approximately 80 in a nearby lot owned by the town.

The planning board’s recommendation for approval will now go before the town board for final review and decision.

With approval, town officials anticipate that the project would be completed in early 2026.
