November HEARTS event postponed for renovation at Cedar Grove

Cedar Grove mansion

Nov. 3. The November HEARTS event at the Hugh Torance House and Store is being postponed to allow for the installation of a whole-house HVAC system.

The needed rehabilitation work at Cedar Grove is starts with the HVAC system to provide climate control and recommended humidity levels to protect and preserve the 1831 Greek Revival masterpiece and its many artifacts.

The neighboring store is open for tours, artisan crafts and sundries every Sunday in November.

December program

The next HEARTS program will be December’s Winter Wisdom.

On Saturday Dec. 10, the speaker will be Margaret “Chuck” Basinger, a fifth-generation descendant of Hugh Torance, and the fourth-generation to Cedar Grove’s first Torrance family, James and Isabella Torrance.

The program will run 2-5 pm at Hugh Torance House and Store, 8231 Gilead Road.

She will be sharing holiday memories with us through the pages of “’Tis the Season with Belle and Chuck,” her recently published book that she authored with her mother, Belle Banks.

Copies will be offered for purchase, and Basinger will be available for book signings and visiting.
