Novant proposals and bond projects on tonight’s agenda

Jan. 5 – By Dave Vieser. There are two noteworthy items on tonight’s Town Board meeting agenda related to development and the parks and recreation department.

Proposed medical facilities

Novant Health will reveal details of two facilities it is seeking to build in town:

• A freestanding 11,400-square-foot emergency room on Holiday Lane, just northeast of I-77 Exit 28.

• A freestanding 20,000-square-foot urgent care and same-day surgery center on Westmoreland Road, where a day care center was once approved but never built.

The presentations are part of the town’s required public hearings process for rezoning projects. Novant officials will outline the project, after which the public will be given a chance to comment. No decisions will be made that evening, but additional comments will be welcome at future hearings before the town Planning Board and Town Board on dates to be determined.

Parks bond projects

The Parks & Recreation Board approved a recommendation last month on priority projects for the $20 million bond referendum approved in 2024. Click here to read more about the recommendations that will be presented tonight during a pre-meeting at 4:30 p.m.

Board approval is tentatively planned for the Jan. 20 board meeting, when residents are able to comment on the plan.

Tonight’s meeting will take place at Town Hall beginning at 6 p.m. It will also be live streamed on the town website at www.cornelius.org.
