No Halloween March, but there’ll be a Turkey Trot; Christmas in Davidson is back in a new “old” way

Davidson Rotary Giving Village pre-COVID

Oct. 4. Davidson again has canceled its Halloween March in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

But the Davison Rotary Club is introducing a Family Turkey Trot for family fun on Thanksgiving; the club hopes to make this an annual event.

And the town is moving ahead with plans for a revised Christmas in Davidson 6-9 pm Thursday to Saturday, Dec. 2-4, following  all COVID-19 guidelines.

The town is only accepting applications for entertainment. Depending on the COVID-19 situation, the town may open the applications to vendors and food vendors.

In a message from the town, organizers said the pandemic is changing how events are held. “We are taking this opportunity to return to the origin of Christmas in Davidson where people came out to support Davidson businesses and enjoy some holiday cheer.

Davidson has a line-up of activities including the North Meck Holiday Parade.

“While we won’t be able to offer most of the attractions that we have in the last few years due to health and safety concerns, we do hope that you’ll be ale to enjoy the decorations and daily roving entertainment options available in town.”

Tree Village fundraiser

The Rotary Club of Davidson plans its Giving Tree Village on the Town Green Dec. 2-11.  All voting will be online for everyone’s comfort and  safety. You will find QR codes for online voting at each tree. Tickets will be sold in increments of $5 each.  Each ticket is a “vote” for your favorite tree or non-profit.

Virtual Marketplace

There is a Davidson Virtual Marketplace for people who do  not want to get out to do their holiday shopping. You can support local businesses by purchasing a gift card. Participating businesses and restaurants are listed here.   Most of the links take you directly to the merchant’s page to purchase gift cards online. If the link takes you to the merchant’s contact information page, contact the merchant directly to purchase a gift card.

First Davidson Turkey Trot

The first Annual Davidson Turkey Trot on Nov. 25 offers a chance to  start a new Thanksgiving  tradition with a family 5K. An event for all generations, participants can walk or run the 5k-course through Davidson. Proceeds go to Davidson Rotary Club. The 5k is an event timed and scored by Queen City Timing and will be an official 5k course by the event date.
