Davidson: New Town Center in old public school

Feb. 2. The Town of Davidson will hold a virtual ground breaking ceremony for the new Town Center Public Facilities project at 251 South St. and at the existing Town Hall.

The $14 million project will comprise public safety, town staff and programming, and community use.

The first part of the project is the renovation of the historic Davidson School at 251 South Street. It includes a 4,000 square foot addition. The building will house the town’s chamber, offices, and meetings spaces. About half of the building will be available for community gathering space.

The existing 16,000 square foot Town Hall at 216 South Main Street will also be renovated, with space for the police and fire departments.

How to watch

The Davidson Board of Commissioners and some members of the Historic Landmarks Commission will be on site for the Feb. 9 groundbreaking ceremony. The town is observing all COVID-19 protocols. A livestream of the event will be available on the town’s YouTube page. The event begins at 1 pm.
