Rendering of The Refinery

By Dave Vieser — A new 10,773-square-foot, three-story mixed-use building called The Refinery is planned at 19711 Bethel Church Road on a vacant lot near the intersection of West Catawba Avenue.

The proposed building’s elevations will be reviewed by the Architectural Review Board at its meeting today at noon at Town Hall. No additional review is required because The Refinery is part of the Cornelius Village Center development approved in 1999. The lot is zoned Village Center, which is intended for mixed-use development, and is surrounded by commercial buildings.

“The project will be consistent with that prior approval, and a rezoning is not necessary,” Town Planning Director Rox Burhans said.

According to the site plan submitted to the town, the first two floors will contain commercial space with a mix of medical spa services. The third floor will contain three residential units.

The developer is Jamie Rolewicz, who is known for several Cornelius projects, including the Watermark luxury condominiums behind Goodwill.
