Mollypop mansion. Cornelius Today photo
July 17. There’s a new landmark on Lake Norman. A house under construction at the end of Mollypop—which is off Belle Isle, which is off John Connor—has a commanding view of the lake and a commanding price-tag.
The building permit values the construction at more than $7 million.
That’s actually a lot of money (spoken like Thurston Howell III), and that doesn’t include the value of the property it sits on—about $1.4 million, according to the Mecklenburg County Assessor’s Office.
Zillow says the median home value in Cornelius is $315,545.
The plumbing permit shows 33 fixtures as well as 10 appliances in a total of 19 rooms, including nine bathrooms.
The general contractor, Kingswood Custom Homes, could not be reached for comment but the owners come from the world of high finance.
Tear-down
Interestingly enough, the new house sits on the site of what was a nice home, fully updated with quartz counters in the kitchen, modern lighting, a renovated hall bath and laundry room with modern tile and fixtures, not to mention a new front door, fresh paint inside and out and high-end carpet.

This house was the tear-down on the Mollypop site
Party-worthy for most of us at $1.4 million.
Alas, it was torn down to make room for the new house which is actually much smaller than race driver Denny Hamlin’s nearby abode, which has a finished area of 21,593 square feet and a total appraised value of $9.74 million, according to the assessor’s office.
