Neighborhood Meeting Tonight on Roundabouts

By Dave Vieser — A community meeting to outline improvements planned by the N.C. Department of Transportation for the Torrence Chapel Road/Liverpool Parkway area west of Interstate 77 will be held tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Serve Pickleball+Kitchen on Chartown Road. Town officials urge neighborhood residents to attend to learn about the extensive work planned over the next two years.

Particular emphasis will be placed on eliminating the Knox Road/Torrence Chapel Road intersection, which currently presents motorists with a difficult interchange and poor sight distance. A roundabout will replace the existing configuration. Much of the work will be done at night, according to Deputy Town Manager Wayne Herron, but some portions must occur during daylight hours for safety reasons.

Improvements will include the addition and extension of turn lanes, reduced signal phasing, and roundabouts at Liverpool Parkway and Chartwell Center Drive, Torrence Chapel Road and the Fresh Market driveway, and Torrence Chapel Road and Knox Road. The project also includes realigning Knox Road at One Norman Boulevard and rehabilitating Knox Road.

Completion is scheduled for 2028.
