Monday is Martin Luther King Day

The Town of Davidson will host a virtual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at http://www.townofdavidson.org/mlk on Monday, Jan. 18 at 11 am.

Schools and banks, as well as the Town Halls in Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville, will be closed in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, held annually on the third Monday of January.

The Town of Cornelius Board of Commissioners meeting, normally held on Monday, will move to Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 6 pm.

The MLK Day of Service on Monday is a ​chance to work together to fulfill King’s vision for a better America​.​

In 1989, founder President George H.W. Bush signed the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday Commission Extension Act, accompanied by Mrs. Coretta Scott King. In honoring Dr. King’s legacy each year on MLK Day, “we have the unique opportunity to reflect on the gains we have made, and re-commit ourselves to the work that remains as we strive for a more just society.”
