Mmm, Little Big Burger opens

Oct. 23. Little Big Burger—with it’s own special ketchup and truffle fries—has just opened next to Jack’s Corner Tap in Magnolia Plaza. NASCAR superstar Denny Hamlin, a part-owner, helped put the finishing touches on the 1,600-square-foot space last night.

Rich Adams, president of American Burger, part of the corporate structure at Little Big Burger, said the driver of the No. 11 car autographed the wall on the left side of the restaurant, which features high-quality, made-to-order burgers and root beer floats. American Burger is a unit of Charlotte-based Chanticleer which owns restaurant brands ranging from Burgers Grilled Right to Hooters.

Hamlin, a joint-venture partner in Little Big Burger, has an option to open an additional nine potential future locations.

Food will be served made to order and wrapped to go—no plates—but there’s seating for about three dozen people. The homemade ketchup is savory for sure, and they spell it catsup.

Manager Robert Trevillian says Little Big Burger offers Certified Angus beef and Tillamook brand cheese and ice cream. The burgers may look small at first, but they’re extra thick and dense. The Tillamook root beer float is amazing.

The restaurant will be open 11 am to 9 pm Sunday through Thursday, until 10 Friday and Saturday.

There are 15 Little Big Burger stores with the chain expected to double in size. The Little Big Burger location here was previously occupied by Derado’s Italian Deli.

Hamlin, who lives in Cornelius, is a NASCAR superstar. The 2006 Cup Series Rookie of the Year became the first rookie to ever qualify for the NASCAR playoffs and has qualified for the playoffs in 11 of his 12 full seasons racing in NASCAR’s elite level. Hamlin’s 31 Cup Series victories place him 25th on NASCAR’s all-time win list, which includes a win in the 2016 Daytona 500.
