Meck COVID death toll hits 29

COVID-19 in Meck: 1183 cases, 29 related deaths

April 20. Mecklenburg County says the coronavirus-related death count has reached 29, with a total of 1,183 lab-confirmed coronavirus cases here, more than twice that of any other North Carolina county.

State and local totals can differ, based on when data was collected and where tests were given. The Mecklenburg numbers are expected to be updated today.

Statewide, there are 6,764 cases. As of 11 am Monday there were 179 deaths.

On Friday the health department web site was reporting 21 deaths and 1,098 cases. Two days earlier, on Wednesday of last week, there were 16 deaths and 993 cases.

Meanwhile, the county has reported outbreaks of two or more cases at seven long-term care facilities, including Autumn Care in Cornelius. County officials did not disclose the number of cases at each facility.
