July 31. Mecklenburg County property tax bills will start arriving in mailboxes this week. Bills are due by Sept. 1 and must be paid by Jan. 6, 2025, to avoid a 3% interest penalty, which increases by 0.75% each month after that.
In May, Mecklenburg County commissioners approved a 0.96-cent rate increase in the new budget, resulting in a property tax rate of 49.27 cents per $100 of assessed value.
“Any taxpayer who may have difficulty paying their bill is encouraged to contact the Office of the Tax Collector as soon as possible,” the county said in a release. “It is imperative that taxpayers do not wait until December or after the bill is delinquent to express concern with their ability to pay.”
Tax bills for properties under appeal will be mailed at a later date.
