LKN slowly coming down

DOCK UNDER WATER ON BELLE ISLE DRIVE

June 10. Lake levels are slowly declining and the flood gates at Cowans Ford are now closed. Duke Energy says “significant inflows” from the recent rain have Mountain Island Lake over-flowing, but Lake Norman has crested at about 99.8 feet.

The National Weather Service is calling for more showers and thunderstorms after 10 am, with just a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain expected. Same thing tonight, with more showers and thunderstorms likely, with rainfall between a tenth and quarter of an inch.

WBTV meteorologist Al Conklin, whose mother lives in Cornelius, said when levels on Lake Norman are dropped by one inch, Mountain Island Lake rises by a foot.
