Kindred Closes Temporarily Due to Fire

A small fire at Kindred on Sunday night is forcing a temporary closure, but the restaurant’s owners say the team is already focused on recovery and reopening.

The fire, reported about 7:30 p.m., started in a wastebasket in an upstairs bathroom. No injuries were reported, and the building’s sprinkler system quickly contained the flames.

“Luckily, nobody was hurt. The sprinkler system did its job,” owner Katy Kindred said.

Staff worked into the night to dry the space and begin cleanup. However, the sprinkler system left the restaurant with water damage.

Kindred praised the team’s quick response, as well as support from neighboring businesses and the community.

While repairs and remediation are underway, the focus is on rebuilding, according to co-owner Joe Kindred.

“When we come back, we’re going to come back stronger than ever,” he said, hinting at plans for a refreshed menu. “This is a rough time for us, but it’s also a time that we can grow, we can learn and we can get better.”
