April 16. By Dave Yochum. Restaurateur Joe Douglas is focusing on his 131 MAIN concept and real estate development activities and is in current conversations with “some strong local concepts and operators” for the now-closed COWBOY building.

The 4,190-square-foot building, across Hwy. 21 from the proposed Atrium Health Acute Care Hospital, is listed for lease with Charlotte-based Colliers.

COVID impact

The Cornelius resident said COVID restrictions drove their company strategy towards focusing on 131 MAIN, a successful concept for over 16 years.

COWBOY, a fast-casual concept, served steak, fresh-made bread, ribs and rotisserie chicken.

Douglas bought the vacant land on the northwest corner of Bailey Road and Hwy. 21 in 2015.

Retail, medical planned

He plans to start construction this year on more retail space and a medical office building. The Farm Fresh Market, which was on West Catawba for years, is now located on the northwest corner of the property.

In additional to the original location in Cornelius, Douglas has 131 MAIN restaurants in Asheville, Blakeney and Southpark.
