Huskies head to Independence for week two matchup

Aug. 29. By Kyle Moxon. The Huskies take on the Patriots tonight in a non-conference matchup at Independence High School in Charlotte.

Both teams are coming off big season opening wins against South Carolina schools. Hough beat South Pointe last week at Bank of America Stadium and Independence bested Gaffney in the upstate.

The Huskies will face a Patriots offense that put up solid numbers in week one. Seniors Prince Young, Joell Wooten and Ricky Myers Jr. combined for more than 210 receiving yards and QB Jared Street Jr. posted a 75% completion percentage.

On the ground for Independence, the trio of Jayden Jones, Jared Street Jr. and Travis Hill rushed for a combined 160 yards and four touchdowns.

The Huskies’ offense struggled at times in week one but came up big at the end of the game with a 40-yard completion from QB Ethan Royal to WR Tyran Evans that set up the winning score by Royal, his second rushing touchdown of the game.

The Hough defense looks to build on its solid performance against South Pointe, highlighted by a big stop late in the game after South Pointe converted three 3rd and longs but had to settle for a field goal.
