Hough Spring Sports: Playoffs Underway

By Ryan Moxon — Here is our weekly roundup of scores and statistics for the Hough Huskies spring sports teams, as the regular season concludes and the state playoffs begin.
Boys golf: Hough senior Sam Quattlebaum qualified for the state championship after shooting a 70 to finish sixth in the 8A West Regional at Longleaf Golf Club in Southern Pines. The state championship will be played May 11-12 at Pinehurst No. 8.
Boys volleyball: The Huskies defeated East Mecklenburg 25-14, 25-21, 25-14 on Thursday night in the 8A state quarterfinals. The 15-4 Huskies are seeking a return trip to the state championship for the second consecutive year. They will play Ardrey Kell in the next round at 6 p.m. at home on Tuesday.
Girls soccer: The Huskies beat Hopewell 3-0 in their final regular-season match but lost 2-1 earlier in the week to Myers Park after defeating the Mustangs earlier this season. Hough finished second to Myers Park on a tiebreaker for the conference title. With a 20-3 record, Hough received the top seed in the eastern region and will have a first round bye in the playoffs, with a potential rematch against the Mustangs looming in the regional final.
Boys lacrosse: Hough finished the regular season as conference champion with 15-5 and 19-9 victories this week over Providence and Ardrey Kell, respectively, to finish 5-0 in conference play. The 17-3 Huskies ended the regular season with the highest RPI in 8A and received the top seed in the eastern region. The team secured a first-round bye and will have home-field advantage throughout the regional playoffs.
Baseball: The 18-7 Huskies beat Mallard Creek 19-1 in the first round of the playoffs, highlighted by a 13-run third inning. Hough’s pitching staff limited the Mavericks to five hits. Fifth-seeded Hough advances to the second round and will play fourth-seeded Ardrey Kell on the road tonight at 6 p.m.
Softball: The fourth-seeded Huskies received a first-round bye in the playoffs and will host Hoke County tonight in the second round. Hough finished the regular season with a conference championship, posting a 10-0 conference record and a 19-5 overall mark.
Girls flag football: Hough beat Ardrey Kell 41-6 this week to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The team wraps up the regular season tonight at home against Mallard Creek.
Girls lacrosse: Hough finished the regular season on a high note, beating Pine Lake Prep and Providence by a combined score of 47-11. At 9-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play, the Huskies received the fifth seed in the eastern region and will host Providence in the first round of the playoffs.
Boys tennis: Hough defeated West Forsyth 6-0 in the first round of the state tournament before falling to Northwest Guilford 5-1 in the second round to finish the season 7-6. Hough senior Daniel Ben-Yohanan posted the Huskies’ lone singles win, 6-3, 6-4, in the final match.
NCHSAA: The governing body for North Carolina high school sports approved boys volleyball and girls flag football as officially sanctioned sports beginning with the 2026-27 school year.
