Hough Spring Roundup: Week 4

Baseball: Hough went 2-2 over the past week, defeating Garinger 15-0 and Christ the King 8-0, while falling to South Mecklenburg 5-4 and West Forsyth 4-2. The Huskies are 8-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. They will face South Mecklenburg again Friday in a conference matchup.

Boys volleyball: Hough is 8-2 overall after a busy few days. The Huskies played six matches over the past week, including a four-match slate Saturday against T.C. Roberson, Weddington, Mount Tabor and A.L. Brown, going 3-1 with their only loss to T.C. Roberson. Hough defeated West Mecklenburg 3-0 on Tuesday. The Huskies return to action April 1 against Marvin Ridge.

Girls flag football: Hough defeated Independence 20-6 in its only game last week. The Huskies will play Garinger on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Girls soccer: Hough won three matches last week, defeating West Mecklenburg 9-0, Garinger 9-0 and Hickory Ridge 3-0. Freshman Nora Breault scored three goals against West Mecklenburg. Seven players scored against Garinger, with Olivia Miller and Campbell Schmidt recording two goals each. Miller and Schmidt also scored in the win over Hickory Ridge, along with Sophia Pustorino. Goalkeepers Elizabeth Rupert and Riley Pickels have allowed four goals through 12 matches. Hough returns to conference play Friday against South Mecklenburg.

Softball: Hough extended its winning streak with conference victories over Myers Park, 11-1, and Hopewell, 10-0. Reese Lavey went 3 for 3 against Myers Park. Payton Elwell, Caitlin Schriber and Gianna Claggett each hit home runs against Hopewell, with Claggett adding three RBIs. The Huskies lead the Greater Charlotte 7A/8A standings and are second in the N.C. Class 8A rankings behind Providence. Hough travels to Weddington on Thursday and hosts Palisades on March 30.

Lacrosse: The boys and girls lacrosse teams were off this week. The boys play Cardinal Gibbons on Saturday night in the Heroes Bowl, an annual event that matches up the top teams in the state at Ballantyne Ridge High School. The girls are off until April 1.
