Girls soccer

The girls soccer team started strong, winning its first two games. The Huskies opened with a 7-0 win over Community School of Davidson and followed with a 4-0 victory against Pine Lake Prep, which was ranked in the Top 10.

Junior forward Olivia Miller leads the Greater Charlotte 7A/8A Conference with three goals through the first two games.

Baseball

Hough’s varsity baseball team opened the season Saturday at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis. Despite returning much of the talent from last year’s conference championship team, the Huskies committed several miscues and spent much of the game playing from behind in a loss to East Forsyth, but rebounded with a dominating 12-1 victory against New Hanover.

Coach Pete Jenkins said he remains optimistic about the season.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “We’ve got 12 seniors, six or seven of which play on a consistent basis with big arms. If we can pitch to contact and stitch together a couple of timely hits, we’re going to be OK.”

Softball

Hough softball began the season in dominating fashion with a 3-1 record. After a 7-3 win over South Iredell in the opener, the Huskies outscored Independence and East Lincoln 22-0 in their next two games before falling 4-2 to Mooresville.

Hough is the only team early in conference play with a winning record, and six players rank in the top 10 in RBIs and runs. Senior outfielder Reese Lavey leads the team with seven runs, adding three RBIs and three stolen bases. She also has an .750 on-base percentage and a .636 batting average.

Girls lacrosse

The Huskies opened the season with a 14-8 win against R.J. Reynolds and dropped their second contest to Lake Norman Charter by a score of 21-9.

Boys volleyball

The Huskies dropped their volleyball season opener to Reagan in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-15.
