Oct. 29. By Ryan Moxon. Hough hosts Hopewell tonight in a rare Thursday Night Lights matchup, aiming to complete an undefeated season. A win would also secure a conference championship for the Huskies.
Hough’s last regular-season loss came on Aug. 23 of last year. The team has since won 18 straight regular-season games, with its only other defeat coming in the state semifinals against Grimsley. The Huskies are 57-8 in the last five seasons.
Hopewell is 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the Greater Charlotte 7A/8A Conference. The Titans have dominated on the ground, averaging 196 rushing yards per game. Senior running back Zac Jones leads the team with 132 rushing yards per game. His eight touchdowns account for a quarter of Hopewell’s total scoring this season.
Jones faces a Hough defensive line and secondary that have been dominant this year, particularly against teams with strong running games.
The 7 p.m. game was moved up a day this week to avoid Halloween on Friday. Tickets cost $8 on the Home Team app and the game will be live streamed on NFHS Network.
