Hough football hosts Mooresville in home opener

Sept. 12. By Ryan Moxon. The Hough football team will play its home opener tonight against Mooresville riding high from an undefeated start to the season. The Huskies are 3-0 with two wins over perennial state championship contenders from South Carolina and Virginia.

Mooresville heads to Hough with a 2-1 record including wins over Sun Valley and AL Brown. The Blue Devils lost their season opener to Weddington by a score of 31-10.

Hough’s defense, which has been a key component to their success early in the season, will look to contain the strong ground game of Mooresville running back Ja’darius McCombs, who is averaging 86 yards rushing this season. Another focus will be shutting down the receiving trio of Gavin Barber, Dominic Morin and Chanse Bost.

On offense, the Huskies look to continue to ride the big yardage plays that have been a hallmark of the start to the season from junior quarterback Ethan Royal to his two top receivers – seniors Jaden White and Tyran Evans.

“It’s going to a hostile environment,” said Hough head coach DeShawn Baker. “These are two teams that know each other really well and the team that’s going to be the most physical and the most consistent is the one who’s going to win this game.”

Kickoff is 7:00 pm at Hough High School. Tickets are $9 each and must be purchased on the GoFan app. Hough is encouraging all fans to wear all white for tonight’s “White Out” game.
