By Ryan Moxon — Hough quarterback Ethan Royal threw for four touchdowns and ran for another score Saturday night as Hough dominated Cardinal Gibbons 35-10 in the Keep Pounding High School Classic at Bank of America Stadium.

Hough scored on its opening drive on a short-yardage screen pass to wide receiver Mason Pearsall-Brown, set up by a 39-yard completion to wide receiver Josh Autry.

On Hough’s next possession, Royal scored on an option play after completing a 40-yard pass to wide receiver Christian Coleman that moved the ball to the Cardinal Gibbons 10-yard line.

Cardinal Gibbons got on the board with 7:10 left in the second quarter after Hough defensive penalties put the Crusaders in range for a 48-yard field goal, cutting Hough’s lead to 14-3.

A scrappy Hough punt return just before halftime set up Royal and Pearsall-Brown for a 60-yard completion to the Cardinal Gibbons 10-yard line before finding him again for a 15-yard touchdown pass, giving Hough a 21-3 lead at halftime.

Hough was just as dominant in the second half as wide receiver Jahmere Anderson added two touchdown catches.

The Huskies shut down a Cardinal Gibbons rushing attack that gained 190 yards in its season opener a week earlier.

Cardinal Gibbons recorded just 96 total yards, compared with 414 for Hough. The Crusaders were held to 61 yards on 34 carries, while their passing game produced 35 yards. Hough linebacker Ryan Peterson led the defense with 12 tackles.

The Crusaders’ only touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a pick-six.

Hough is 2-0 and will take on Providence Day at 7 p.m. Friday in its home opener.
