Nov. 21. Hopewell High School engineering students took first place in the “NFL Stadium of the Future” competition held at Bank of America Stadium. The event challenged students from regional high schools to design a next-generation stadium using sustainable and innovative engineering practices.
Hopewell’s design, dubbed the “Aquaponics Center,” incorporated an on-site water treatment plant. Students Drew Dixon, Joseph Halgus, Evan Jenkins, Abigail Pape, Zaniya Sanders, Gabrielle Studer, Stephen Taylor and Ariana Vongsakoun were awarded a $5,000 prize for their school.

Ballantyne Ridge High School, first runner-up, mentored by Matthew Wykoff and Kathleen Ma, awarded $3,000

Hough High School, second runner-up, mentored by Brock Shipley, Alina Adams and Tracie Allen, awarded $2,000
The program was hosted by the Carolina Panthers and Davidson-based Trane Technologies. Students received mentorship from executives representing Duke Energy, Burkert USA and SC Johnson.
