HomeSense will open its first NC store in Shops at Fresh Market

Aug. 10. By Dave Vieser. HomeSense, the home and fashion retailer which is part of TJX Cos., is coming to Cornelius. It will take over part of the the former SteinMart space in the Shops at Fresh Market.

It will be TJX‘s first HomeSense store in North Carolina. TJX is the parent company of off-price retailers like TJ Maxx, Marshall’s and HomeGoods.

HomeSense will take over 25,000 square feet of the 46,000 square feet of space SteinMart had.

Assistant Town Manager Gary Fournier said the other tenant space will be 21,608 square feet.

There’s no official word on a tenant for the smaller space.

Total Wine, said to be a possibility, did not respond for comment nor did leasing agents for the shopping center.

HomeSense stores offer “an ever-changing selection of top brands all with genuine value, including furniture, lighting, and rugs as well as a general store and an entertaining marketplace,” according to their website. The retailer, launched in 2017, has 39 stores in the US, 148 in Canada and 77 in Europe.

Steinmart closed two years ago as part of a company bankruptcy filing. It was a popular anchor store for the 101,000 square foot Shops at Fresh Market. Owner DDR Southeast, based in Beachwood Ohio, did not respond for comment.
