High school senior aims for $750,000 to help fight leukemia

Feb. 22. Maddie Rizzo, a high school senior who lives in Cornelius, has been nominated as the Student Visionary of the Year for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The students raise funds for LLS in honor of blood cancer survivors.

Maddie lost her mother, Meghan, in 2017 to an aggressive form of leukemia. For the past 7 years, she has been dedicated to funding research for leukemia & lymphoma, especially research for children.

Maddie’s campaign goal is to raise $750,000—$100,000 for each year she andd her sisters have lived without their mother.

“We want to do something extraordinary in her memory and for her legacy,” she said.
