Helen Jewell Seymour Harris, age 100, was born in Greene County, NC to Lena Turnage and Lum Chadwick Seymour February 24, 1915; she passed away November 29, 2015.
A longtime Raleigh resident, Jewell moved to Huntersville in 1981. As a faithful member of Huntersville United Methodist Church and volunteer at The Oaks nursing home, she was a loving servant. Jewell was also a member of Huntersville Woman’s Club, and occasionally traveled with the Ramah Ramblers. Most recently, she was a resident at Olde Knox Commons.
Jewell is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Rowland Harris, Jr., son of the late Reverend Edwin Rowland Harris (Nora Styron) of Virginia; brothers Raymond A Seymour (Grace), Frederick L Seymour and sister Jean Seymour West; she is survived by her daughter, Betsy Helena Harris (Edward) Humphries of Huntersville; her grandchildren, Kristin Harris Humphries (Gregory Schwartz), of Jacksonville, FL and Carrie Leigh Humphries Furberg (Robert) of Carrboro; three great grandchildren (Ella Olivia Humphries, Daniel Styron Furberg and Lena Josephine Furberg); sister, Violet Seymour Boyd of High Point and brothers, Leonard H Seymour (Rebecca) of Kinston, and Benjamin D Seymour (Ruth) of Raleigh.
Her family is grateful for the gift of her life and for the treasured memories she leaves with us. Special appreciation goes to the Olde Knox Commons nursing home staff, Charlotte Region Hospice & Palliative Care, and our Huntersville United Methodist Church family for their love and care.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, December 5 at 11 a.m. with visitation and meal to follow in Huntersville United Methodist Church.
