Green Daze: Ways to celebrate your Irishness around Lake Norman

March 8. By Jason Benavides. Get your green on and head out to some of the best St. Patrick’s Day events around Lake Norman. Enjoy Irish fare, have a pint and celebrate Irish tradition. 

Birkdale Village: Luck of the Village

March 16 (Date change), 6-9 pm | Enjoy an evening full of live music from the Loch Norman Pipe Band and The Hitmen. Irish dancing from The Connick Reid Academy will begin at 6:15 pm. Featured beer will be from Lost Worlds Brewing and Royal Bliss Brewing and Liquor drinks will be provided by Red Rocks Café. State Fair Mini Donuts will also be available for a yummy green treat.

Practice makes perfect even for the big day celebration on March 17th. Food and drinks specials with all that St. Patrick’s Day energy. Start the day with Charlotte FC vs. Atlanta at noon and then The Royal Academy of Irish Dance perform at 3 pm.

Lake Norman Social District: Weekend Block Party

March 17, 3 pm-Midnight; March 18, 12 pm-Midnight

• The Royal Academy of Irish Dance will perform live on WCCB Charlotte’s morning show on March 17.

Head to downtown Cornelius and stroll through the Lake Norman Social District with specially designed cups while enjoying green beer, music, food trucks and more at this 2-day event. Thigs Cocktail Bar, Old Town Public House and the Cain Center for the Arts make up the Social District.

• Thigs Cocktail Bar | T-shirts & hats will be given to the first 100 guests on Friday and another 100 on Saturday. The social district pouches are back with a slushy cocktail and Jell-O shots. Friday features music by Brian English while Saturday features Jeremy Mohr and DJ Honeybear to close out the night

• Old Town Public House | Enjoy outdoor games and a Luck of the Artist Vendor Village on the larger, double-tier patio area. Catch The Royal Academy of Irish Dance perform at 3:30 pm. Weekend music includes Kris Atom and the Kevin and Sean Band on Friday and Brent Cates Duo, Stormin’ Norman Band and Bullfrog Moon on Saturday.

March 17, Noon-close | Enjoy a Shilelalagh Irish Ale or beer of your choice in a special shamrock pint glass while they last, $5. Live music includes Steve Brown Acoustics and Irish drinking songs plus Flipside takes the stage at 6 pm. From 4-9 pm Muchachos Tacos and Rowdy Dogs food trucks will be on site.

March 11, 9 am-4:30 pm | The Whitewater Center’s resident leprechaun transforms the river green for St Patrick’s Day. Start the day with The Color Me Green 5K Run beginning at 9 am and then try rafting down the river and listening to live music. 5K registration ends March 8.
